How many Days without cutting?

hodgepodgepython Jul 06, 2010 09:18 AM

I have eggs that are at day 60 and no pips yet?!?!
I have cut at 55 days before, however these eggs were from a small female i did not expect to lay and the eggs are smaller than any of my others, so I was worried to cut at all. Only 2 of the 5 are starting to wrinkle or cave in some, the other 3 look like they did when laid. I have candled them and they appear to all be fertile ect.. I just wanted to to let at least one pip before I cut. The only one I ever forced out last yr was a slow and picky eater so I wanted them to pip on their own this yr. I wanted to get opinions on how long to let them go on their own?
I will most likely be cutting this evening really, but I will gladly accept any praise for waiting until day 60 lol...

I don't cut till they pip. This year I had a clutch pip on day 52 and another on day 69, all in the same incubator. I suspect some develope more in the female before being laid and thus hatch sooner. I would be happy to hear others opinions on that.

NOW they can't wait 2 more.....

LOL.....kinda .....aaaahhh.....duh...LOL...

maybe the temp gun was wrong or incubator was wrong ....

LOL I know I answered myself.
I was really thinking I may cut just one or 2 that have started to sink some.. I am not entirely new to this and I know what they should look like before they hatch....
I guess I was looking for insite as to how much longer to wait and if anyone feels as though letting them pip on their own has its advantages?
OH BTW Not sure I mentioned This is a YB to YB breeding so I am really hoping for at least one Ivory and will be my first high end morph.. Another reminder that I tested my patience by not cutting sooner. I may still give them a few more days depending on how the other eggs look when I get home.

OH and I am Obesessive with temps,
I have 4 different Thermometers in the each incubator and I use a temp gun. I am more sure about my temps than I am about what color boxers I wore today.. lol
They have stayed between 87 and 89 since they been in the incubator..

87 to 89 then theoretically they will take 62 days to pip....

....my temps run all over the place maybe....you set incubator up and it all stays at 90 -ish then after you have it full of eggs it might change...but I stop checking after a couple weeks....and then as the temps outside grow higher and higher...like 100 today....it changes stuff....

....my corn eggs and all were from 78 to 88 all the time...up and down and up and down....used to think it mattered and killed them and made freaks....since my temps started peaking and dropping my freaks ratio dropped....alot.....!...used to get a dozen to 3 dozen freaks a year...(worst was NO head...and alive with a herniated septum to boot...heart and mungs visably working...yet the no head...just a little bitty brain stem bump)...eeeew....

......want another experiment....I dropped a box of eggs on the floor a few weeks ago...corns...about 30 ...some dropped in clumps about 18 inches to the table...others dropped 4 foot and rolled all over the place.....they look good all but 3...and I had no idea which end was up on the loose eggs....we see in a couple weeks what happens....(they were 3 -3 1/2 weeks into incubation when I dropped them.......I know another guy that dropped a box years ago...it is said his all hatched)..!...first box I ever dropped in 20 years.....hopefully the last....

ive posted many of times when the discussion of not turning comes up. my mom tipped my table that was holding my entire incubator up one time a month into incubation. all eggs hatched just fine. i dont worry about them turning. its all bs that stems from the old days when if eggs didnt hatch it was temps fluctuating or i turned that one or what not. but in actuality it is because they were most likely being cooked or under hydrated or any number of other issues that no one knew about.

if eggs were so fragile their would be none left in the wild. if a fox raids a nest and destroys it and 50% of the eggs are eaten or crushed will the other 50% not hatch because they were disturbed....i think they would hatch fine because they are designed to be durable. the temps fluctuate all over the place in the wild, same with humidity. they get disturbed all the time as well.
i dont worry about it at all, when they pip they pip

OK... I am home and I have one poking its head out WOO HOO!
Funny enough, it is the first one I would have cut because it looked more ready to hatch if that makes sense...
I wish you the best with the yellow bellies. My YB female didnt take this year, but the one that did is questionable, she has the traits, but not as pretty as the others so realistically shes a possible. Either way I am just happy to have something hatch this year. I have garanteed het pied to het pied breeding and 3 of 6 eggs rotted.. That sucked, but I still have 3 that are at 52 days today so fingers crossed on at least one pied.
It seems alot of peeps have had bad luck this yr. On a different note I still have males locking up.. I think I stress them because of a move during the season. I hope to have late albinos and maybe more het pieds, time will tell. One female just went through that glow phase so maybe they are all late ovulating.
I will keep you posted on the possible Ivories..

Well a few hours and a few beers later... I cut 3 after the first 2 came out on their own and I do not have ivories..
Maybe next year...
I still have 3 possible pied that will hatch in 8 days..
Its still nice that I have 5 babies and I am sure a few will be YB so thats better than none.
I hope I have better luck next year and I think as a rule I will not cut until 60 days in the future..
