Breeder ethics ?

theoddsgod Jul 06, 2010 10:51 AM

A good friend of mine purchase a high end ball python from a prominent breeder, payment accepted and cashed in by the breeder!

A few days prior to shipping he gets a call from said breeder advising him the sale was cancelled and money would be returned. The money was returned promptly.

Question; Do you find this practise acceptable?

I for one will never deal with this breeder knowing this, in my book, you just don't do that! its moraly wrong!

What do you guys think?

That's what I'm wondering... was the buyer in a city or state that ball pythons are illegal? Was the snake reposted for more that what was sent? Sounds like someone I wouldn't personally deal with..

HIGH END or high end?

why was it cancelled? ball might not have eaten afterall...it happens...

all info should have been afforded the buyer at time of purchase..."hey man, it hasn't eaten yet,but..."....

....stuff happens...but sounds like it sucks.....if they got a better offer....even for a friend...that is not cool....

...have fun....

I think there's missing pieces here!

What was the reason for the sale being canceled? If the snake was sick, or died and it was the last one...I'd consider that quite acceptable. You can't just blacklist the breeder without knowing his reasoning.

And I posted my reply before reading that it was seen later and sold to someone else.
Maybe it was sick and ended up cured.

If it was advertised after the sale was canceled, especially a few days later, I would suspect a health issue came up. Or maybe he couldn't ship to your location? (due to laws perhaps?)

As he notified you and returned your funds promptly...I would say that was a good point. I would have wrote the breeder back and ask why specifically did he cancel the sale.

If he was offered a better price or decided to sell it to a friend etc. why would he advertise it again?

I didn't think it was advertised for sale again I thought it was shown in pics as bought after sold the first time....meaning...he got poked.....

.....

..they owe you anyways.....they should have no trouble giving you a good deal....since prices drop everyday anyways.....???

Something similar happened to me with a Big Name Breeder. The ad was for an male Enchi het Ghost and I mean it was Smoking! Probably one of the most picture perfect Enchi's you could ever imagine. I asked and confirmed that the Enchi in the picture was the one I was to recieve. When it arrived, much to my suprise.... it was not the same Enchi! Glad I saved the picture on the ad!! I called right away to tell the breeder of the problem and was told the Enchi in the ad was actually a female. Their mistake. I told him I was still interested in that female for sure, and inquired about how many Enchi Het Ghosts they had available. They said they had 1.2 more for sale, including the one that was in the ad that I wanted. I told him I would call him the next day because I knew someone else looking for some Enchis and I would probably take all of them. Well, when I called the next evening, I was told that he didn't here back from me so he sold 1.1 of the Enchis het Ghost. I guess less than 24 hrs was too long to wait even though he had my email and phone number to contact me and let me know someone else was interested in a pair. I shrugged it off and asked about the other female that was left. I said I would definatly buy her because he said it was the one I liked that was originally in the ad. OK then, how much for just her? I asked. His reply.....Oh, we've decided to keep her, she's not for sale anymore!!!
So instead of making things right with me because they sent me the wrong snake, and I was about to even spend more money with them by purchasing 3 more snakes,......they made matters worse!
I will never do business with them ever again! I dont care what reptiles they produce that I want, I'll find someone else!
