Out The Front door Again!

pyromaniac Jul 06, 2010 06:43 PM

Alfonzo the yearling bull snake managed to pop the lid off the Critter Keeper I was feeding him in, and when I came back in after doing the mouse tub washing chore (a couple hours later) he was not in the Keeper! Again with searching all around in the ivy, and around the house foundations, to no avail. Then I thought of looking out by the swimming pool area, and sure enough, there he was under the wooden pool platform!

Here he is with this small platform in the background. Once again I feel incredibly lucky! He was coiled under there and seemed rather surprised when I found him.

Those Critter Keepers are not any good for keeping a strong determined snake in, or a mouse that gnaws; I think I could maybe keep a little lizard in one, that's about it.

He's a good looking snake. It would suck to lose him. Hope you got something more secure in which to feed. I've lost snakes due to my own stupidity, or underestimation of their strength & determination to go on a tour of my house. Thankfully I've found them, but it's still a Homer Simpson "DOH!" moment, right after they've escaped, and you figure out you could've prevented it.

I was so mad at the Critter Keeper I felt like stomping on the feeble little piece of junk! But it was a lesson learned, with only the cost of a temporary bit of anxiety. Alfonzo is a pampered pet and would not last long on his own. So many predators would snap him right up! Raccoons, foxes, skunks, red tail hawks, even the local puma...

that snake got away twice & you found him both times?!? you're on a roll, better buy a lottery ticket this week!

No, this is a different snake. Gonzo the Pacific gopher got away a few weeks ago and was found in the ivy by the front steps a few hours later. This is Alfonzo, who made it all the way out to the pool area. None the less, I should buy a lotto ticket today!

Or just use a container with a locking or screw on type lid! LOL! I had never used the critter Keepers for feeding the snakes before, and after this wont ever again. Besides that, I have had many more escapes out of habitats than out of feeding containers (only this one feeding container escape).
