Sanzinia babies - finally

Jeff Lemm Sep 23, 2003 07:50 PM

Hi all,
Well, after 10 months since the last observed copulation, my three-year-old pair of green Sanzinia produced. She had 13 babies, two of which died after birth as they could not escape the birth sac (I was out of town and returned as she had the last one). She only had one infertile ovum. Babies are doing great. They should be on the classifieds once they are eating - don't know sexes yet. Whats interesting is that they shed almost immediately after birth and the mother was blue when she had them.

First off, congrats on the new babies. One thing about Sanzinia is that they don't really have a very set schedule on when they'll drop their babies. I've had 2 females be 2 months apart when they drop babies even though I cycled them the same.

Anyway, I sex babies this way... Males have big, very easy to see, spurs, like the one in the picture. It's obvious from birth.

females have what some would call greatly reduced spurs while others would call it "none", like the female in the picture. I've never seen any spurs worth noting on a female while there is always big spurs on the males.
