Toronto's major heat spike...need advice

rdm01 Jul 07, 2010 11:38 AM

Hey all,

I live in Toronto Canada and right now we have a crazy heat spike and a humidity warning (no work outdoors in the city basically). It will last another week and a half or so.

Even though I have air flowing into the room using a fan my pythons enclosure doesnt drop below 86 on the cool side. The warm side remains at 90-92 constant. The humidity doesnt drop below 70% and sometimes rises to 80% at night.

The snake seems fine to me in the enclosure and isn't roaming around or anything. When I handle him he seems to be a little more jumpy than usual but this could be because he just shed.
But is this too humid and warm?

An air conditioner is currently not an option seeing as how they sold out everywhere in the city.

Thanks everyone!

I live in South Florida, that is a typical day here unless it gets hot. A friend's python room hits 100. Are you running heat tape? If not, why is there a hot and cool side? I'd turn off the heat tape if it is on.

We have the same type of weather where I am an hour west of you. First of all, this heat will only last until Friday from everything I've read.
Secondly, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with anything you've described so far. They'll be fine, don't stress it.
Just stick it out another two days.

Friday: Thunderstorms, high 26
Saturday: Mainly sunny, high 28
Sunday: Sunny, High 29

It all sounds good to me, I aim for those temps. in my room.

I'm in Waterdown so it's about 45 minutes from you and all mine are fine. I do have an extractor fan in one room which comes on every three hours for 15 minutes, the room stays the same as the other breeder room.

Had to thaw out an extra 60 medium rats yesterday as more adult females wanted to go back onto food.......

They should be ok. I had my bedroom reach 102 in my old apartment. I took my snakes on the top of my rack and put them on the floor. They were all fine.

They should be fine...for my balls I just turned off the heat tape as my bedroom where most of them are kept gets very hot...and they are doing fine, eating etc. so no worries. Humidity is fine too, as not all of it gets into the cages anyway. As long as they don't get cold extra humidity won't harm the snakes.

All you Canadians...hiding here and never using the Canadian forums, shame on you...no wonder its died out to only a couple forums now...
