Yesterday, my lewisi hybrid either managed to get her cage door unlatched, or else someone came into my yard and tried to get a better look and got frightened off if they tried to grab her and she tail whipped and tried to bite. Either way, she's not going back outside until we have a better lock on the cage (right now she's sitting in the windowsill under her Megaray).
She's been getting some blue in recent sheds and looking quite nice, I think, but she's not as blue as many of the hybrids on here. After a few moments of absolute terror over the empty cage, she turned out to be amazingly easy to find as she sat on the ledge of the raised rose garden, blazingly blue and beaming with azure pride. I was shocked at the contrast between her absolute blue between her dark stripes and the brown garden ledge. I was a little afraid she was going to spook and run (and part of our back fence is still missing) or I would have gone inside for the camera, but my main concern at that point was getting her corralled so we could grab her and bring her inside. I really do wish I had a picture to share though!
I had just read a few weeks ago in The Little Blue Book that lewisi have a lot of control over how blue they are at any given time, but I was still shocked at how strikingly blue she was yesterday! I don't know my girl's percentage of lewisi since she came to me as a rescue in 2004, but she did not show very much blue the first few years I had her. The records that came with her indicate she came out of a David Blair clutch back in 2002.
This is the bluest picture I currently have of her, but it is nothing compared to how she looked yesterday.
