Do you "chill" with your python?

PhunkeyPhish Jul 07, 2010 05:00 PM

Just wondering how many people just hang out with their snakes on regular basis. I'm fairly new to snakes, but had iguanas that would hang out, tried it with my python and to my surprise he will just sit on me or next to me for long periods of time.

Yes! We love to "get the snakes out". We have several friends that will come over to watch TV or just have supper and they enjoy each getting a snake or two to handle and sometime corral, especially the kingsnakes which tend to be excitable. One of the best ways to enjoy the laid-back nature of these creatures.

Not my pythons, but my girlfriend's beardy just spent 8 hours sitting on a shoe. He spent the whole day free in the apartment. The cats leave him alone, and he just chilled on the shoes.

Absolutely, every snake in my collection gets handled at least once a week (unless they are gravid or in shed). I like to bring them out if I'm just relaxing watching TV or a movie. I've tried it with my corn snakes but they don't snuggle as nicely as the ball pythons do. Also makes them awesome demo snakes. Sometimes the faster snakes make people nervous but they are more apt to pet the slower moving ball pythons.

My balls must not like me...I take them out and sit down with them and they will take off exploring LOL Well, take off in their usual slow steady pace...but definitely they don't sit around and 'chill'

Maybe my place is far more interesting to ball pythons than other people's places

I'm still new as well, but mine loves to chill after a short exploring session. My baby fell asleep on my hand yesterday, he's so precious!!!
