Housing 2?

PhunkeyPhish Jul 09, 2010 07:00 AM

Not necessarily looking to breed, but am interested in getting a second ball. How large an enclosure would one need to house 2 balls? Can you house 2 males together (I have a male now), and if so how big would the smallest male need to be to house with an adult?
Thanks

As I understand it, housing two males together is usually not a good idea. One will eventually become dominant and stress the other into not eating or growing. I do not know if this is also the case with females.

To tell you the truth I think males only display dominance if a female is thrown into the equasion and that's only if they are breeding age and older. My experience is they are fine together. I had 4 sub adult males in a 55 gallon setup. It was temp and I had them in there for about 5 months. So a 75 gallon should house two adult males fine or you can get a rack system that will cost about the same and keep them seperated. Keeping them seperate helps when feeding.

i personally wouldnt house them together. I would spend the money and buy a rack system. If you get another snake you will need to quarantine the new snake so you will need 2 seperate enclosures anyway. Housing together makes it difficult to keep close watch on their health as well. Who regurged that mouse?? Who has the unusually foul/bad poop?

No argument there Shadow. I was just sharing my experience with my temp setup. I hated it and had them setup like that temporarily. I would definitely get a rack system as well and a quarantine tank just in case. Best of luck with your pets.
