2006 Female BRB Progression Pics

IkeLightner Jul 09, 2010 12:24 PM

A week or two ago there was a post asking for progression pics for Brazilian Rainbow Boas. I have had my female now since MArch 2007 and have been pretty good about keeping up with recent pics of her. Here is a sample of a few shots of her from each year I've had her.

She is currently GRAVID as can be and sitting at 116 days POS and I can't take the suspense!! She is absolutely huge and all the signs appear as if she will pop any moment!!! Anyway, here's some progression pics, starting from when she was just a tiny little newborn. Thanks

OCTOBER 2009

And the last three pics were taken in MAY 2010. These were snapped with my cell phone so they are bad quality, don't show her colors well, but nonetheless you can still see her starting to swell with babies.

Very pretty snake. Good luck with the babies. Do you mind if I ask where she came from and if there is any chance she is heterozygous for hypomelanism?

Hey thanks Mike. I do not think there is a chance that she is Het for Hypomelanism, though I'm curious what it is that made you think she might be?? I got her from Dave C back in 2006 as a tiny little newborn.

There is a theory that hets have that dark spotting in the center of the dorsal patterns.

And no, neither of her parents are known to be carrying a Hypo gene. BO-PO-0612

Someone mentioned the black-spot thing to me at a show last year. I wrote it off until I started looking at pictures of past clutches. All of my 100% het clutches showed the spotting and there was a mixture of spotted and non-spotted animals in the 50% het clutches. All of my het breeders have spots or had them as babies and juveniles. I also looked at pics of other breeders' clutches when they would post them here. The theory started to gain some weight with me.

Oh well...

The parents were West coast BRB's, close to the original source but from up North - Oregon. Remote possibility one could have been a het. Mike started the whole hypo thing with a pair of sibling animals from EBV. No telling how many other siblings are out there both up and down the family tree. I would suspect somewhat heavily centered around or bordering on EBV. Back then it was pre-internet and I believe a much higher percentage were sold at local shows.

Boo did not have the dorsal spotting, Porky on the other hand did but was never bred to any known Hypo stock. My records also show he was never bred to any of his offspring.

Unfortunately, both parents are no longer in my collection (sold) so I am unable to directly prove or disprove either as het Hypo.

Looking back at baby pics I do see a mix of spotted and non spotted ones so?????

I do have a total of 5 babies from Porky. Only two clearly show the dorsal spotting and as luck would have it, were bred together this year and the female (Lily) is gravid and due October 9th.

I saw them as something different, side blushing, and wanted to keep/breed them together to see what happened....

Stay tuned for further developments....

Checking my records, the only ones you have the are descended from Porky are Phoenix babies. But he did not show signs of dorsal spotting so.......

You are correct, I overlooked Bullseye and Clover as I was looking for known Porky offspring only. Unfortunately neither of them has the dorsal spotting either.
