Raffle for US ARK - Donations needed!

kathylove Jul 09, 2010 04:14 PM

COMING SOON - the annual cornsnake dinner and raffle Saturday night during the Daytona Expo next month!

Some non-corn related items will be displayed on the US ARK table Saturday with ticket sales during the day (winner need not be present at the dinner to win). It was loads of fun last year, AND we raised $1,800 for US ARK, which was doubled by Zoo Med. ANYONE who likes corns is invited to the dinner and raffle - email me for details.

We need ANY donations we can get for the raffle - animals or non-animal items - they don't have to be related to corns. If you will not be attending, but want to donate something, we can make arrangements to receive it via mail, shipping or transport by another member.

KS members really helped make it a success for US ARK last year - THANKS!

The letter below is from Andrew Wyatt, showing his support for our effort:

Kathy & Katie,
Thank you so much for all the great work you are doing to support the Herp Industry and USARK. The Corn snake Dinner was a smashing success last year and you raised about $1800 for USARK. We were grateful and are excited that you plan on doing it again in 2010. Of course Zoo Med is still matching donations so whatever you raise this year will be matched by Gary Bagnall at Zoo Med. He has just been elected our new Chairman of the Board! If there is anything I can do to help let me know. Thanks again for your support!

Kindest Regards,
--Andrew

will bring more at the auction than we could get for raffle tickets. Really expensive donations would be best for the big auction - but we could use lots of small and medium value animals or other items from whomever would like to help!

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Jul 10, 2010 04:28 AM

Maybe he intends the albino for the big auction then. Regardless I'll give another expensive critter for the Corn Snake raffle and auction then. You can rest assured on that [perhaps a Pied Ball Python}...thanks

That is very generous! I am really happy to do anything I can to help support US ARK - and your donation will certainly help!

If you decide on something like a pied ball python, (could be our most expensive item), we will advertise it ahead of time and try to sell some raffle tickets even before the show.

If I remember correctly, the fire ball you donated last year was actually won by a corn snake keeper from Indiana who didn't even attend the show - she sent her money in for tickets and won long distance, lol! I shipped it to her after the show.

I was just wondering how much needs to be raised for the Pacelle and Newkirk contracts?
I remember talking to someone at one of the IHS meetings a long time ago. He raises crocs in Florida. He said he is sometimes approached by local crime figures and offered money to dispose of bodies. I cant remember who it was, but it shouldn't be hard to find someone on this site that can offer those services.

I wouldn't even joke about stuff like that. Actually I think it might be illegal even....thanks

If ridiculing the absurd is now a crime, I plead guilty as charged.
Please have me reported to the FBI. There is clearly no place in this country for me anymore so I am ready to cash out. There were no sentiments in my comment that haven't been expressed thousands of times, in thousands of other ways, on this, and numerous other anti-AR sites. But I apologize to any non-AR individuals that I have offended. That was never my intention.

I didnt produce anything expensive yet this season, but I'de like to send some 2010 stuff anyway (boas, milks, graybands) if thats alright. Please email me & tell me when you need them by & the address to ship to. Hopfully the temps will be good for shipping on both ends.

We have promises for various boas, crested geckos, corns and kings, etc, along with a couple of more expensive items. All are welcome! I will message you with the details.

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for all of the great donations so far! Some were small and inexpensive, and some were very expensive. But ALL are appreciated and will help US ARK fight for our rights. After the show, I will post the donations and donors, and how much we raised for US ARK.

Please remember that the Expo is hosting an evening auction that will also benefit US ARK. Ours is a separate event. If anyone still wants to donate anything reptile relate (live, supplies, books, art, etc), TO OUR RAFFLE, there is still time. I would like to have all donations by Sat. morning, but will accept them until the expo closes Sat. at 5 p.m. Any donations given to us after Sat. evening will be passed on to US ARK to use in their next fund raising event.

Thanks to all who are making this a fun and profitable fund raising event!

Here is the final list of what was donated and by whom. I am pretty sure I have everyone/everything here, but if I miss something please let me know. This is strictly just the prizes that were for the raffle - this does not include door prizes.

I was afraid that with the main auction supporting US ARK, our smaller raffle might suffer, especially in this bad economy. But we raised almost as much for US ARK as last year - approximately $1700 - and had lots of fun doing it!

We tried to set up some of the more expensive items on the US ARK table to sell more tickets to the general public, instead of just our corn snake group. But our Florida fish and wildlife dept. said no - we couldn't do it without another permit. They said they would help us figure out how to do it that way next year, though.

I hope all donors are listed here - let me know if I missed anyone. Thanks to all of you - see you again next year!

I have close to 70,000 miles on my Alaska Airlines account to donate to anyone at USARK with a partner account. Should get one really good international flight or at least two good domestics out of it. They sure earned those miles. Let me know.

kathylove Sep 01, 2010 01:27 AM

I am sure they can make good use of the miles! I will pass your offer on to Andrew when I email him - thanks!
