So I picked up a pair of fires recently on kingsnake and I am iffy to say the least about the boy being a fire.. what do you think?

Brother Brian, I am not anymore of an expert on the snakes than you are but I have 5 fires and that does not look like any of mine. I think a lot of the time or at least on my Fires they have what looks like a bit of reduced markings and a good bit of blushing down the back.. Not the busy pattern that this guy seems to have. Im gonna email you a couple of pictures I took the other day of a couple of my fires. Jay

Does kind of look like a YB. Mine all have busy patterns like that as well, belly looks pretty close, head looks close...maybe more pics with a little better light will be easier to tell.

def yellowbelly. not all the bellies are the same. i have one clear belly and one super speckled belly one. fires got more blush.
