Ltt's Only Eat hairless rodents?

aquaboyaquatics Jul 10, 2010 11:34 AM

I was hoping to get some advise on my Ltt's. I can't get them to eat hoppers and they are more then big enough. They all eat well but are up to 2 or three pinks every feeding. Is there a way to entice them into hoppers? Should I just jump into rat pups? The mice they eat are thawed with rats in the water so the smell of rats should not be an issue. They actually will turn away mice sometimes that are not thawed with the rats. Is it safe to feed them rat pups?

Thanks

That's what I would do. In fact I was already thinking it, before I got to the part that you mentioned the rat pups.

some prefer certain items.....smaller is better alot of times....but I have seen 4 footers eat large mice like 3 at a time...yea I know...a monster....usually I have like 3 footers or less and feed them fuzzies...like 3 at a time?....

rats are fine.....

heck....there was a pic online a few years ago of a guy feeding his garter chicks....wow.....

the one fed adult big mice was like 18 years ago...E-town PA crossing the road and they had a 3 1/2 footer too....4 male 3 1/2 female...I never checked , they had free run of a rented condo that a pair of crazy people had....yes...free run, along with like 5 adult (also 4 foot) red sided garters, not sure ssp....waters,and like 2 black rats...one was 6'6" ...I caught it.....the TX cribo and the eatsern indigo (yes illegal) had cages...the rest were free range....

the other 4 footer I bet it was....a pair....I caught (because I was in territory) last year with your friend....and released in like 5 minutes? under same wood....

....I know...IF I ever find another 4 foot milk I am taking it straight to 3 cameras and using 3 tap measures in each photo....

trust me....LOL.......

......especially if it has no red.......

........then I will release it...because PA snakes are pretty much worthless in the pet trade.....

No, they will eat hoppers and fuzzies. I just fed an 09 eastern a hopper tonight. Try moving them up to peach fuzzies from the pinks and get them used to that for a while, then eventually move up to fuzzies and hoppers. if you're trying to go from pinks to hoppers that may be too big a jump.

good luck!

Feed them what ever they want and be glad they eat. Most of my adult milks eat fat fuzzies and some would rather have live ones but here is a WC that took FT adult mice the day I brought him home and would eat from my hand.

They eat pinks great! As soon as they have the fur they are spotty. Even peach fuzz they look at me like I'm pulling a fast one.

snake_bit Jul 13, 2010 03:41 PM

How big are your milks? An adult easterm milks might eat about eight 5 day(still hairless) old pinks or more and that would be far more costly then 3 fuzzies or a few hoppers.Have you tryed live food?

They are approx. 20 inches. Maybe a little more? This winter will be there 3rd. Live is just not an option for me. They LOVE thawed pinks so i was thing pink rats as a next step. Are rats to fatty? Should this be a concern? I ask because i would think a snake eater would be more adapted to leaner meats.
