DOJ -vs- Arizona

DOJ Files Ridiculous Suit Against Arizona, Wastes Taxpayer Money in the Process

Hard to believe, but the Obama administration is suing Arizona for attempting to rectify a blatant failure of the federal government. Weeks of political posturing came to a head on July 6th as the Justice Department officially filed a suit against our state regarding the immigration law that was passed in April.

The Justice Department argues that enforcing immigration law is a federal responsibility. Arizonians have heard those words for far too long, and our concerns about public safety have been completely brushed aside. The federal government has proven itself remarkably incompetent when it comes to securing the border, and the people of Arizona are suffering the consequences.

There is no mistaking the fact that for several decades the federal government has completely failed to do its job, and now the state of Arizona has taken matters into its own hands to protect its citizens from gang violence, drug smuggling and human trafficking.

It is beyond outrageous that the DOJ is spending time and resources to block a state from enforcing immigration laws that already exist. If this administration had devoted the same amount of energy to building a fence, protecting citizens in border regions or carrying out pre-existing federal statues, there would have been no need for Gov. Brewer to sign S.B. 1070 into law.

A study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) concluded that illegal immigrants cost the United States an astounding $113 billion every year. This comes out to over $1,000 dollars for each “native-headed” household in the country.

The government will waste taxpayer dollars to pursue this lawsuit. Making this yet another example of President Obama being on the wrong side of an economic issue.

Compared to the Obama administration’s previously boisterous rhetoric on the immigration law, their legal challenge is incredibly narrow. After months of decrying S.B. 1070’s supposed discriminatory nature, the text of the lawsuit has little to do with discrimination and everything to do with federal powers vs. states rights.

For all intents and purposes, they are conceding that their discrimination argument would not pass muster in the courts. The people of Arizona deserve an apology for the accusations of bigotry that have been hurled against us for the past several months.

Since we are so confident that we will win in the courts, common sense conservatives in Arizona welcome this legal challenge to our immigration law. We are eager for the law to be upheld so other states may follow our lead and promote the safety of their own citizens.

But everything hinges on the next few months. We urge that you support the AZ GOP as we do everything we can to push back against the lies and distortions from left-wing media, as well as help to elect conservative representatives who will devote themselves to securing the border.

Personally, I do not believe the Federal Government can win the case, as their failure to enforce laws already on the books has compelled Arizona to take matters into it's own hands.
It is NOT a matter of prejudice, ethnicity, or place of origin; it's simply a matter of dishonesty and hypocrisy in Government. In other words, Government says one thing and does another. That's just wrong!

I still think Arizona will prevail in the long run.
