Ctenosaura Quinquecarinata

startedwith1 Jul 12, 2010 11:11 AM

Hey all!
I usually post on repticzone (as queenbeez) but I thought I would start posting on here too.

In January I adopted a wild caught Ctenosaura Quinquecarinata from a petstore that had him labeled as a "Spiny tailed Iguana". Hes blind in one eye and missing a leg but other then that has come along nicely. He took well to being handled... and will sit still for a few minutes before he darts off. Still no clue how old he is.

I'm just wondering if anyone else on here has one? I have yet to find anyone who does and it would be nice to share notes and pick up some tips!

Although they are small they are a really beautiful species!

He's adorable. I'm Really on Repticzone, and am owned by Kismet. I've never kept Ctenosaura, but I can see how you would like them. He's got a lot of style in a small size!

Oh where do I start!!!

I've read everything I could find on them but I still haven't talked to any people that own them so I have no idea if my little man (Norbert) is a healthy happy guy. Especially given his rough arrival into the pet trade. He had loads of internal parasite s and the people had no clue what they were doing with him and he would have died if left. They didn't even know what he was, I had no information to go by and didn't know if he was a hatchling of a bigger species or just a little guy. Eventually I pieced it together.

I would love to see what kind of setup you have for yours if possible. How active are yours? How long are they (I've read varying information though I know they are quite small), Do they prefer to be in pairs? and is there anything specific that yours like to eat/climb on/bask on etc. Also what do you keep your temps/humidity at?

I tried to do the best I could with the limited information thats out there on them. Hes in a 65 flex. He much prefers the slate I have in with him to any of the branches and will rarely climb (the missing leg doesn't hinder him at all though). He rarely comes out and prefers to hide amongst the rocks. His temps are 80 and 105 in his basking.

Sorry for the novel, despite the lack of information i've been trying my best to get it right so any info would be greatly appreciated.
