Question about determining sizes of chameleons

catwoman9 May 26, 2003 12:44 AM

I am wondering if the size listed for a certain type of chameleon generally includes the tail, or is just the body?

Also, what are the smallest varietes of chameleons? I've got my eye on pygmy leaf chameleons and I know they are very small. How big do rudis chameleons typically get?

Thanks to all for the help!

Most of the time the size listed includes the tail. Sometimes you will see SVL with it which means snout to vent length.
I would get my first chameleon (if this is a first) according to ease of keeping and most things I have read list veiled and panthers as the easiest to keep, but they are not small. Jacksons are supposed to be suitable for beginners and don't get as big as veileds and panthers but I don't have any experience with them so I woul ask people on the forum who have them what they think.
I love my Panthers and my Veiled.

Thanks for your reply! That length question has been perplexing me for quite a while now, LOL. I'll keep all that you said in mind as I continue the search! (Yep, this'll be my first chameleon.)
