Weird Feeding problem, Plz help

ror_herp Jul 13, 2010 10:56 AM

Ok guys I have question. Something I have never seen before. I have an 07 100% het albino male that has a good feeding response BUT he ONLY constricts his rats. Then drop it and ignore it. Please help me. I have had this guy since February and he has only swallowed one rat once. He kills everything I offer him but then no follow through. He constricts but does not eat. I have many balls and have been doing this a long time and have never seen or even heard of some one else with this problem of a snake constricting his food but not eating it. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

try teasing him with it again, iv had some drop it and not start eating within a few mins and re-teasing them with it seems to get them to constrict and eat it

This works for me with a few of my balls when they do this.

Where do you feed him at? I have a female normal that does this. I place her in a small tub with a locking lid. Even though she drops the rat, eventually she must find it because she ultimately eats it. I have found that leaving the room (thus why the tub lid must lock) encourages her to eat the rat sooner rather than later. I think it might have something to do with them feeling insecure about the vulnerable position they are in when trying to feed.

some snakes till they reach a certain age would rather watch (or hide from) any distractions in the room than eat. i give the rodent, then cover the enclosure with a piece of newspaper, so i can move about without the eating snake being able to see me. i do have one 6 year old snake that is insanely shy and i'm pretty sure she will never change. my other adults i can do a jig in front of while they eat and they're not going to care.

I have the same problem with some pos. het albino females. 2 out of the 5 eat good, the others always take, but seldom eat it. I haven't found anything that works yet, so if you find something that does, let me know. Good luck!

I have seen this! Normally, if you can dangle the dead rat and get him to bite the rats "snout", they'll preceed! The trick is getting them to get the nose!

We have a het pied that does the same thing. Getting him to hit the head usually does the trick for us too.

i agree, if i can get my weird feeders to take the nose, they usually take it down right away.

I've got one that does the same darn thing. I have to offer her rat fuzzy's or she will not eat them. She's an 09 and about the size of a 4 month old. Try offering your fella something half the size you are currently offering.
