My Black Pines

shadylady Jul 13, 2010 06:56 PM

Took these this evening. Not very good, but gosh they're squirmy! Can't get my flash to work. Oh, well. They are five years old. I call the male Moose. Female is a bit smaller, but laid 11 eggs that are pipping today.

First pic is the female.

Second is male with my son, for bulk reference.

Third is little old lady me and the male. I'm guessing he's close to six feet. I'm 5ft. 4 in.

Very nice, they're beasts!

Impressively impressive! Man are those stout too. My '09 is my most spazzy snake. I'm hoping she calms down but seems like that might just go with the territory.

Thanks. In my experience, pits usually calm down at around 2 to 3 years of age. My male was an extreme spaz as a youngster.

Impressive,Majestic Beasts that you have there!!!It doesn't look as though they miss any meals!Gotta love black pines that have that nice shine to their scales, not all of them do.Congrats on their offspring this season! Alan

Those are great looking snakes. Black pines are the most under-rated snakes around and incredibly rare in the wild. Still amazing to think that 15 years ago very few people had even seen one. Now they are available to anyone who wants one. Brave new world!

Someone asked me last year if they were from big bulky stock. At that time I didn't really think they could be called all that huge. This year, however, the male seems to have really matured. He has only had maybe four meals since fasting several months for breeding season.

I really love these guys. Getting over the spaziness as youngsters is tuff but well worth it.

Like most pits, they never offer to bite, but can hiss like crazy!

I just got my first Black Pine and am super stoked on him!! He is an 09 and came from completely black and pretty huge parents owned by Russ P. I look forward to him growing into a big giant like yours

The very existence of flamethrowers means that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves..."You know, I really want to set those people over there on fire...but I'm just not close enough to get the job done!
