A Day in the Life of "Ahnold-the Red"

Pit_fan Jul 14, 2010 10:15 AM

Ahnold "blew out" of his 13" x 9" x 3.25" hides this year but he's cool about it for the most part...

Ahnold "feasts" on rabbit...

Sorry Ahnold, your other 13" hide is now too small too and your owner has not taken the time to upgrade your situation (yet)...

Hah, Ahnold's in line to get a tank upgrade with new hides soon. The largest hides available from that company are 20"x13"x6". If he gets large enough to "blow out" of them...well I won't go there. I like the preformed hides, especially for this guy since they are easy to clean and are re-usable. Ahnold would quickly destroy anything flimsy and his colossal defecation events or CDEs would otherwise render any less robust hide, permanently un-usable. I know, excuses, excuses...

CDE's ...definitely needed a good acronym for that!:D

Very cool post. Is he that big or is the rabbit just small? It's funny how snakes will still try and stuff themselves into their hides even after they're too big for them. Ahnold is Awesome!

Thanks Reako!

The photo is a bit deceptive as Ahnold is over six feet long now. The rabbit is a half grown desert cottontail that one of my dogs killed this past weekend. Otherwise, Ahnold is into (by necessity) partial concealment for now.

Aww...the poor old guy! Give him a Sterilite 18 Quart Dishpan. Cut a hole in the wall so he can get in it. Walmart always has those.

pyromaniac Jul 14, 2010 08:02 PM

18 Quart Dishpan
Dimensions:
17 1/2" L x 14 1/4" W x 7" H
44.5cm L x 36.2cm W x 17.8cm H
He should be able to fit in that.

Hey Pyro,

I get into town on the order of about once a month. The nearest "Wally World" to me is 83 miles away. I have already ordered the pre-forms from Reptile Basic. Would rather support them than Wal-Mart...

pyromaniac Jul 14, 2010 08:18 PM

83 miles! Wow! I live 25 miles from the closest Walmart. At least the Sterilite tubs are made in the U.S., not in China! LOL! I am really cheap; I use inverted soda flat boxes which I can throw away when they get pooped on.

Thanks Amy!

How's that Red Bull of yours? Pics?

Shadylady Jul 15, 2010 09:38 AM

Sorry to say that I sold her and her albino mate earlier this spring. I miss her bad!

Good news, tho, is that the new owner is reporting to me regularly about how she is doing.

Shortly after he acquired her she laid 11 eggs for him. AND he just emailed that she has double-clutched a few days ago, with 12 more eggs. He's obviously taking really good care of her.

I used this for a 6-7 foot northern pine that liked to trash his cage, it has rubber on the bottom and doesn't move too much.
