Incubation

sbm Jul 14, 2010 12:26 PM

I put my first eggs of the season in my hova-bator last night. What temperature and humidity do you target? How have you setup your incubator for cyclura eggs?

Thanks for the information.

I'm NOT sure what you mean by "hovabator" but if it's a small styrofoam chicken egg incubator with the heat coil at the top it's not a great incubator to hatch out Cyclura eggs. Their eggs are so big they get too close to the heat coil and can have big problems...thanks

How about the tempature & humidy?

I would incubate at 87 degrees. A lot of people say and do 86, however the way incubators are set up they try to hold a temperature. 86 degrees is really the minimum temp you should keep. Thus if you set up your incubator at 87 you should never fall below 86. As far as humidity, around 80-90%. You would rather be on the drier side and have to add a little water then be to moist and risk them drowning. I keep a tub of water in my incubator to help stabilize temperatures as well as to maintain humidity. If I notice water droplets inside the tub I will take out the tub until the humidity drops.

I incubate at 88 degrees with about 70% humidity. I keep my eggs a little drier than many folks do but if the egg is fertile it usually hatches. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW WATER DROPLETS ON YOUR EGGS as this is not a good thing....thanks..All that happens if you incubate lower or higher temps is the time varies on when the egg will hatch. I'm guessing they would hatch as high as 91 degrees or as low as 82 degrees. I've always just incubated at 88 degrees....
