My kings. Growing like weeds.

varanid Jul 14, 2010 08:01 PM

Some of my Florida kings. Feeding day was Monday so they're still a bit big in the middle.
Chomper was a rescue; ya'll may remember that story. Starved, neglected, etc. etc. Fairly old--at least like 6 or 8 months, and weighed all of 41 grams on 18 October, 2009.

Here she is now. For size reference, that's an Iris 375 tub that measures 14x10" or so, and which she lived in for a little bit.

She's 600 grams empty, and she does *not* still live in that tub. On small rats.

Epicurus, a poss het. male from Rainer. Got as a baby back in October, weighing 16 grams. Is now like 220 grams.

Candle, an axthanic and sibling of Epicurus. was 23 grams, now just over 200.

The hypo and white sides are in shed so no photos.

darn nice work there raising those things up. The axanthic is gorgeous. Those must be from my 123 line (PB x Axanthic x hypo) correct?

Thanks And yep. The hypo female is like 280 right now. but she's also in deep blue so I didn't photograph her.
That axanthic is turning out way different than I thought. Purdy.

Holy cow I new those hypos would turn out great. You know theose are line bred and not outcrossed S, Dade county stock from the original canal phase brooks kings.

See the busy pattern on these and compare them to other hypo brooks. The high band count and the busy pattern is not what you see in normal hypos. The hypo trait effected pattern and all the original hypos came out with these abnormal abberacies because the hypo trait had that effect. What these are, are old canal stock bred back into the hypos (New England axanthic and original PB stock) cuasing the original pattern of the old canal phase brooks people used to seek after before the advent of hypo came in the mid 90's.. Everything a locality guy wants in a nice hypomelanistic package.

Thanks for showing that to me. Maybe can you post a pic after it sheds.

I'm not up enough to know how it compares to other hypos, but I really like her. She's got a color I like a lot. Thanks for the great snakes

They've all become very enjoyable to work with too; very docile. Like 'em a lot. Don't plan on getting more this year, just cause I want to get what I have breeding first...but Fl. kings are easily my favorite colubrids right now (I like 'em about as much as retics but god they're easier to manage).

Hey how long is Epicurus? I don't have a scale so it's hard for me to judge size by grams. I wanna compare to the one I have.
