Mattman- my cage ideas

WaGuy82 Sep 24, 2003 12:24 AM

Thanks for your replies. The cages I was planning on having built is made out of melamine. They will have vents. I will have to install the ceramic base myself. I assume that's easy to do. I will just have to drill a hole. It will be done in white and if the 100 watt is too strong I can get the 65 watt mercury light from www.uvheat.com. It comes with the ballast. The builder is someone from kingsnake. Here's the ad if you want to check it out. Let me know what you think.

Yeah that looks fine. Like I said you might have trouble with the 100watt but the 65 with separate ballast should be fine for it. In my cages I know with the 100 watt in a 2 foot high I only lift the basking spot maybe 5 inches for them to get a nice warm basking surface temp. Just try a few things and adjust the basking site to get the temps you need. That cage looks nice, and putting a ceramic fixture up is not hard at all. I think mine cost about 3 bucks, and the 12 foot extension cord 5 bucks. I cut the extension cord drilled a hole in the top back and wired it up pretty easily. Should work out great for your berdies.

Thanks. One last question. You mentioned that you drilled the hole for the ceramic fixture on the top of the tank. Will this make it less stackable? I ordered three of these to be stacked on top of one another. I figured I could drill a hole in the back of the tank. What do you think?

Yes, that's what I ment through the top of the back piece. Should have made that clear. Here is a pic of the fixture.
