new tank for marbled gecko pic inside

My old boss gave me this hex tank and stand as a parting gift last week when I moved and I just got it set up the other day.
It's a crappy pic, but I can't find the usb cable for my camera so its the best I can do right now.

Would it be best to have the heat pad on the upper or lower part of the tank? The marbled gecko who lives in there spends most of his time up high.
Let me know what you guys think, I'd like to make it as nice as possible, I want it to get more attention than the tv in the living room
