reptilehouse Sep 24, 2003 12:35 AM

Please post your pics if you have any. i just received some hypo tangerines in a trade. They are so nice I can't say enough. A couple of them look way different and better than the rest. All the pics of super hypo's are of adults on the classifides though. Can you tell there super hypos as young as 2-3 months or even as hatchlings? Hypo tangerines are new to me so help would be great. Thanks very much!!!

Super hypo's all vary.
You will not be sure whether or not a gecko will be superhypo or not until it is around 20 grams. The best estimate you can use on how it will look is its parents. I have had geckos in the past that were born without a spot on their body, and grew to have a couple of spots. I also had geckos in the past which were born looking normal, and turned out to be superhypos.

I think that you should wait until at least 6 months before classifying ANY line bred animal. I know of at least one person that bought a super hypo as a sub adult that turned out to be a reduced pattern (not quite high yellow) by the time it was breeding size/age.

There are no guarantees, even when breeding two supers together, that the offspring will look anything like the parents. To sell hatchlings as super hypo just because the parent are (and this happens all the time) is not correct.

To make things clear I only wanted a comparison, these are not for sale. these are my future breeders. To sell something and not be for sure what is, yes to that reply I highly agree, but these are not for sale. They are changing so much seems like everyday that I can not waite to see there outcome. As soon as I can get some pics I will post them up for they already look way different from the pic I have of them a few weeks ago.

Here are a couple that I hatched out on 15 August. These pics were taken in the last 3-4 days. I'm assuming they're going to turn out hypo or Super Hypo. They've never had a spot on their heads. With these, I can definitely tell when they hatch that they are different from normals. If not right away, within the first 24hrs.

I'm sure wahberee's right and all of them are different. This is my first year breeding these beauties, but I'm very impressed with the differences.

6/6/03 10 minutes after hatch

9/16/03 about 3 months old give or take 10 days

Not too shabby....

One on the right is from hypo to hypo breedings. I think she most likely will be a super hypo tang but, I will have to wait and see. The other odder looking one started out with a intense jungle pattern and she is possible het for bell out of a tangerine male.
