This little Chinese Beauty started pipping yesterday, and came out some time today. Eleven to go, in this clutch. These are double het for calico and T positive albino.

Great gene combo Toby. I friend of mine showed me a couple hatchlings a few years ago that were visually showing both genes and they looked incredible.

Thanks Randy!

I remember you telling me about those, a while back. I will be working toward that - but one of the main reasons is to get new blood into the calicos.

Great work, Toby...

You put together your calico female and an albino male, correct? So the babies will all be dbl. het. and look normal, me thinks.

Hope we get to see some more pics later.

Thanks Terry! There are a few more out today - and I'll get new pics after I get home from work, later tonight.

Yep, double hets. The pair was a large adult T positive albino female (which I got from Dave Tracer, a while back), and one of the big female calico's '07 male offspring. I also bred him back to her (big female calico) and I have a clutch of seven eggs cooking from that pairing - should be all calicos.

Ok, a clutch of all calicos. That should be really interesting. Good luck with all of those. Sounds like you're going to have a bunch of little ones running around.

Well, not as many as I was hoping for, this year - but a few anyway.

Here is the scene, this evening - four out, and another pipping.

Here is a pic I took last year, of the parents of this clutch. I think the male was still a bit small to do his job then - but they enjoyed snuggling.

That's great, Toby. Did they all get themselves out, or did you have to help?

They got out on their own, with no help from me. I stopped helping them after the '08 calico clutch. I radically changed my incubation methods, and made some changes in diet for breeding females. All of the '09 calicos got out fine, on their own - and it looks like all of these are geting out okay too. I think all have now at least pipped, with a few more out this evening. I'll try for a group pic tomorrow.

I expect the '10 calicos to start pipping soon too.

Nine perfect babies out, with three to go.

Since this photo was taken, I put all of these in individual tubs - and number ten came out of its egg.

They look great, very cool. How did you change the diet of the gravid female? How did you change the incubation, besides using perlite? Sounds like something worked really well...
