I dont know too many snake people up here in west michigan, but everyone that has seen my snake room loves my racks, so i thought i'd post some pics, the large one is my female rack, smaller is for males and the one that looks like a dresser is my display/baby rack. i havnt posted pics before so this might be interesting

Wow, I love the larger rack. Could we see more pictures about how you get into it and the heating and whatnot? That is real beauty!

i will try to get some pics up but these things are pretty heavy so here is a little bit of an explaination incase i cant get pics up.

I built the racks out of mdf, made the frame then put a water resistant panelling on front and back, cut the holes for access, then took trim and cut a slot in the back of it to hold the plexi glass and used mirror hangers to latch the tops and sides shut. Heattape is laying int he bottom with the wires running out the back (i wired them in succetion so they are all conected) then covered with a plastic version of cardboard to help keep the snakes away from the wires and help with water spills.

the larger 2 spaces on the large rack im going to section of into 4's and fill em in with green tree pythons!
these are only my morph racks, the hets and normals and lower end morphs are in just yer average home made tub racks.

It is really pretty... most I ever made was an enclosure for a juvenile iguana, not nearly as impressive as what you have there though! It's a really fun thing to do, I wish I still had the space to do that.

I love the rack but your comment about using it for green tree pythons i do not think that is going to work out for you because of the high humidity reguirement of gtp it will saturate the mdf and cause it to swell. IMO

JLBalls Jul 16, 2010 05:22 PM

I think I have them sealed enough, (I hope) I keep my snake room at about 60-65% humidity and they have held up for 2 years, I put 4 coats of sealant and then used a spray adhesive and let it dry into a almost hard clear coat. We'll see if it holds up

They do look great, but how do you get light into all of the cages in that dresser set-up? Seems like they wouldn't be getting much.

JLBalls Jul 20, 2010 02:05 PM

It has a removable back to it, and plexi glass tops and i have it right in front of one of the windows in the room, i was really worried about that too but so far it seems to be working out.
