My first hogs are hatching!

chrisdrake Jul 16, 2010 07:58 PM

My wife called me a little while ago and said our hoggies are hatching. I just got home and found 2 of the 3 are pipping. This was my first attempt at breeding hogs and I'm very excited to see the work payoff.

Congratulations! There's nothing like seeing little faces poking out of the eggs.

Thanks Jon and Troy. This is the first one out of the egg.The other 2 are still hanging out in the eggs. He still has and inch or so of inbilical cord. How long does it typically take to drop the cord? It has already shed. I've put him/her on damp paper towel to keep the cord clean.

Thanks,

Chris

The cord usually comes off with the first shed. I would keep it dry not damp. Get the cord to dry up. Once it's dry it should fall off, or you can cut it short and It will come off with the next shed.

Hi Chris, Was your wife excited to see the hatching? My grandkids were here visiting when my hypos hatched. They couldn't believe how small they were. LOL.

Good camera work too.

Thanks Guys. My wife was very excited to see them and was suprised how small they are. I just gave them their first meal right now and 2 of the 3 have quickly wolfed down a live newborn pinkie. The third doesn't seem to interested but its only been 30 minutes.
