Iguana food

WaGuy82 Sep 24, 2003 02:16 AM

Hi

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a pelleted iguana food that is vegetable based? I am trying to find something convenient to supplement my prehensile tailed skinks' diet with and since they got similar dietary requirements, I thought I'd ask here.

Rep-Cal makes an iguana food that my guy loves, and he's done well on. Before the flames begin, he gets a full salad and veggies every day too!!! He leaves salad to eat pellets, and they are something I can leave in his cage all the time, he was so emaciated when I got him it was a good solution at the time, and one I've stayed with because he likes them. I use Rep-Cal's beared dragon food too, and again have had good results except his poo is an alarming shade of green if he only eats those.

I agree that igs and beardies should get fresh food every day, but pellets make life easier and they like them and do well on them. I just make sure its not the only thing they eat, and that the bulk of their diet is greens and veggies.

I'm not familiar with how to use the pellets. Do you soak them first?

For my beardie, I have to soak the pellets, but they are much larger in relation to his size than iguana pellets. For Tempest, I just leave theim in a dish for him dry. He has no problem crunching them, I hear him at all hours crunching away. I always make sure he has fresh water available though, he will drink from a dish. So basically, I top up his dish when it gets near the bottom I buy the big jars of pellets and they last me a couple of months, he eats oh, I'd say 1/3cup a day of pellets if he's really hungry, often not even that, but its always free choice.

Now if only my dogs were so easy to feed!
