New jobiensis

swilson86 Jul 17, 2010 12:50 AM

Picked up this charming little V. jobiensis today from a local dealer. Got a great deal on it and I’m hoping it’s a female. I tried the transillumination technique and I got some shine through and couldn’t notice any hemipenes, although it wasn’t as bright and clear as it was on monitors such as V. acanthurus. So I’m hoping and believing it’s a female, although it’s not for sure lol. Keeping my fingers crossed since I already have a male. It is acting pretty stressed, but did drink quite a bit of water and even ate a handful of crickets so, it’s looking very positive! Anyway, here’s the pictures.

Well, I was 100% certain that my subadult is a male. How can you tell that the baby is a male?

this isn't bad news,i've heard groups of jobiensis have quite interesting group dynamics(as do most monitors) if you decide to get more jobiensis. Moe

Well, it just kind of goes against my end goal. I was able to get shine through (even though it wasn't as bright as I'd like) on the tail during transillumination and didn't see any hemipenes.

Still look male to you?
