mojave pied vs. lesser pied

cid143ti Jul 17, 2010 02:52 AM

I hate to bring this up again if it has already been discussed (I know the lesser/mojave has been numerous times) but I have been thinking about how they influence other morphs...anyway, here it goes. I know that the lesser pied is a solid white snake. But, from what I gather, the mojave pied is not a solid white snake...is that right? Anyway, if the mojave/lesser are different alleles of the same trait wouldn't one expect that they would react in a similar fashion with other morphs. If so, then why did the lesser pied come out as an all white snake while the mojave pied did not? Has the butter pied (and others on the lesser spectrum crossed with pied) been produced? If so, what was the outcome? I thought I was "okay" with the lesser complex stuff until the lesser pied through me for a loop. Any if would help.

Thanks,

W. Smith

Even though I think they're cool... I'm not a huge fan of the lesser pied. IMO it's just as exciting as a leucy.

The Mojave Pied is my favorite pied combo of all. I like that it doesn't get the marbled patter of most pieds and the solid black rings around the patches. These will make some great contrast pied combos soon!
Here's a pic of the 1st ever produced by my friend Becky at All Exotic Reptiles (WF Reptiles).

you actually have it off just a little, they are not different a alleles of the same trait, they are different traits on the same allele. that is why they react differently to some other traits. Now regarding the rest of the "lesser" complex, who knows what the phantom/mystic, het russo lucy genes will do but since the butter is the exact same thing as the lesser I'm sure it will create a solid white snake as well.

Thanks for the reply. So am I correct when saying "the lesser, mojave, butter and others could be considered a case of multiple alleles found at the same locus on a chromosome"? So any pairing of 2 of these (lesser complex) alleles you will get a white snake? So, why would a single lesser allele paired with a normal allele at one locus and two pied alleles at another locus make an all white snake?
