Carpet on feeding strike..

Tormato Sep 24, 2003 02:41 AM

I have an adult carpet python (coastal). She is almost four years old. I was looking forward to breeding her this winter. She is about 7 feet in length and is in good heavy bodyweight. The problem is she doesnt like eating. She will eat sometimes, but not consistantly. I went on a summer vacation and my mom noted that she only ate when she went to bathroom. Is that the way its always going to be? Ive got the rat and wacked it in the head very hard and killed it. She wont go for it. Ive tried live rats and she gets so close to it and the rat turns around just to see whats going on and the snake backs its head off like its scared to death. Ive tried mice and she ignores them, probably because mice are much too small. Sometimes she eats, but sometimes not. Mostly not. She shed a month ago and seems to be getting bigger anyway. I try to feed her weekly. Is this overkill for an adult? I would like to start cooling and get her ready for breeding, because I feel she is heavy enough. I wish I could give you the weight...
Im just wondering if anyone else had/has this problem, and how to fix it. Thanks for the time,
From,
John
