Question about Flagyl and Panacur

WaGuy82 Sep 24, 2003 02:45 AM

This is a little off topic, but a reptile retailer had a shipment of prehensile tailed skinks come in and I am somewhat interested in them. He had told me that they have been checked out by their vet technician and are healthy. They have had their initial treatments of Panacur and Flagyl. He's recommending that I finish up the treatment. I will be doing so and will be taking him to the vet. I'm trying to find one that doesn't charge $60 just for a fecal. With those treatments, will a probiotic be needed? Can I use parazap along with those treatments?

These are just for my information. That way I can be assured my vet is giving my PTS proper treatments.

you should contact the people at parazap to ask them about treating with their product to be safe.

I would not use any worming meds without a probiotic. I am using Acidophiliz from pet authority right now. I can't give any recomendations as I have just started using it.

Even though Panacur has no activity against bacteria and Flagyl has a very narrow spectrum of activity, probiotic use is still a safe and reasonable precaution. The stress of shipping and medicating, along with a diet change can also affect the balance of normal gut flora.
