Blood in stool

Hi

New here. I've been in to herps since the mid 80's (mostly boas and pythons and the occasional monitor lizard) I have been keeping Bearded Dragons only for about a year. I recently acquired an adult bearded to add to my breeding stock. Recently I've observed my new acquisition passing a bit of feces with bits of what looks like clotted blood. It's currently in the quarantine cage(Vision model 322= 36" X 28" X 18"with butcher paper for substrate. Temps are within optimum ranges with all the proper lighting. So far it has not taken any food (vegs or insect)but is alert, active, and even inquisitive. It has no problem passing feces and just in the last two days was the blood seen. It started as small smears on the paper with the biggest clot appearing today around bath time about the size (in total volume)as an adult cricket. Today is July 17 SAT and I'll be taking him to the vet on Monday. I'm just wondering what could be wrong. Any insight from the seasoned herpers here would be most appreciated. BTW he even displays the typical male responses when he spots the females dragons across the room.

Make sure you bring a stool sample with you to the vet. How long have you had him? Could he have eaten anything inappropriate before or after you got him? Can you post a picture?

Check to see if he is male or female.

I've had him for about a week. The previous keeper had him on the usual greens, crickets, superworms, and as a treat, Dubia roaches. He hasn't eaten much for me (If anything he may have taken some greens)and there is nothing in his enclosure that he could have ingested inappropriately or mistaken for food. I got him here on the Kingsnake classifieds. He was the large adult Leucistic male sold by KN. He was sold as a proven male and his very pronounced femoral spores and his excitement when spotting our females is enough to convince me. I'm hoping the dragon can produce a usable stool sample by the time we get him to the vet.

Could be an indication of an internal parasite attacking intestinal or organ walls.

If so you will typically see blood in more than one stool.

One stool sample it may have been an undigested piece of material scraping an inner lining.

If you just bought the dragon you should bring the dragon in and get a fecal float done. Or do one yourself.

Let us know what medication they prescribe and find out specifically what parasites the dragon has.

typically:

panacur for worms

albon for coccidia
