Save yourself the time and trouble and breed roaches. dubia and lobsters
They are far more ravenous and multiply much easier. Once the colony is going you will have copious amounts of feeders.
Very simple to do and require half as much work and effort.
I have raised both crickets and roaches. Roaches are the way to go.
The lobsters and dubia are different from what people consider to be a true roach.
Palmetto bugs (roaches) native to florida, emit a pungent odor and secrete oils. Nothing will eat them.
Dubia's and lobsters die very shortly after being out of their enclosure.
You need to use undertank heating with them. I feed lots of fruits vegetables and a blended mix of organic dog food and oatmeal blended in a blender with some reptile vitamins.
Let me know because I could explain further.
They dont bite and can easily be handled, do not smell, do not make noise.
If you put a liberal coat of vaseline on the lip of the enclosure they are in... the roaches will not cross it.
Crickets die so quickly, stink (literally) do not eat anywhere near as much as roaches. They do not multiply like roaches. They require more maintenance and egg laying material.
Ground coconut husk is what I used for egg laying with crickets.
Crickets need to have their enclosures cleaned out about 3 or times as much as crickets. And they jump all over the darn place.
Crickets are worthless.
Roaches are hardier, and if raised properly more nutritious.
Items needed:
A large aquarium, undertank heater, some aspen shavings, papertowel rolls, along with a mesh cover and some vaseline... walla... you're all set.
Buy about 65 dollars worth of about 300 hundred mixed sized roaches and let them do their thing.
Recipe for roach suflay is forthcoming.
Go to youtube and do a search, there are tons of videos and most are about the same as far as the process.
