BITTEN by a beardie

svt-sinister Sep 24, 2003 07:39 AM

Has anyone been bitten by a bearded dragon? If so, did it hurt and how big was the dragon? Did it draw blood?

Yes i made the mistake of sticking my hand in my beardie cage late one night and when i turned my head the other way i got bitten. It was my biggest male "bevo" he is a leamon head german giant: but i was lucky he bite and let go no thrashing or any thing but yes it cut me and did bleed a little. But that was my fault for going into their home while they were sleeping. In 7 years with beardies it is the only time i have been bit besides by babies and many of my snakes, etc. Hope this helps Scott

My bite was accidental too. I was hand feeding, and yes, it bled. They have sharp little razor teeth and can bite really hard if they want to.
Tee, of TNCbeardies.com, had one bite clear through her fingernail.

Oh my bites havent been that bad. But I think Herman just bites lightly. Ive felt his teeth quite often but he never bites me hard, like a playful bite normally.

Only thing I have been bitten by was a 6 week old baby that was just "mean to the core" LOL. I was trying to handle it and calm it down, etc. That didn't hurt much at all, I have had shots at the doctors hurt far worse.

My 6 year old daughter was handfeeding one of my females one day and she accidently got nipped. It was a nice little slice and it bled a little bit. She quit crying about 2 minutes after it happened, so I guess that didn't hurt that much either.

when hand feeding Carrick berries or melon, he grabs my fingers often being that he is so excited by the food, he grabs and pulls, and shakes, and i have to say, no big deal. He is an 18 inch 528 gram adult dragon. I really dont think dragon bites are much of an issue and nothing to be afraid of.

yea! parrot bites are lots worse than BD bites and they hurt a long time and draw more blood.

I was bitten by one beardie. He is the only one I have that actually does not like to go outside. So, the few times that I had him out he has bitten me when I try to pick him up to bring him back inside.

He didn't bite you... he was giving you "beardie kisses" thanking you for rescuing him from that big mean sun! LOL

I've never gotten bitten by a beardie yet, but I agree that parrot bites are really bad. lol. The worst part is the look they give you afterward. It just screams out, "Do that again and I'll bite you even harder!" lol.

The worst bite I've ever gotten was from my dog though. Almost passed out from the pain :D

The worst bite I've had was from an adult female Dragon.
She grabbed my finger, and although she get me kinda hard, it didn't even break the skin on my finger.

I have been bitten by a beardie many times. Some were accidental during feeding, others just because she really didn't want to get picked up.

Only two bites bled and even then, not very much (pretty much has to squeeze it to get it to bleed). Never blamed the dragon though, it was either defending itself or trying to get the cricket in my fingers, and missed. I have been bit worse by my mice.

Do not downplay a dragons ability to bite. they can very easily cause a trip to the ER for stitches. There back teeth are very good sized and are sharp. If they bite you good you would know about it. I have been biten lightly nothing bad, but I do feed FT fuzzy mice. Let me tell you they crunch right through the skull and have seen them easily cut a fuzzy in half (not a pinky a fuzzy). I only feed my girls off 12" tweezers that I use to feed my snakes. When they want something badly (like a fuzzy) there bite is fierce. With a few females I usually end up with a small fuzzy piece of skin left in the tweezers. So always be cautious feeding a dragon by hand, and I would highly recomend against hand feeding mice, and for some even other food items.
