HELP!! worried about baby ball

Shadow4108 Jul 21, 2010 03:19 PM

OK i've had ball pythons off and on for many years. I am by no means an expert, but have never had any serious problems with any of them. I have a baby I've had since the end of june. She is a a great eater. I have her in a 10 gallon on newspaper with several hides. Her hot side is usually about 85-90 with a cool on about 75-78. I have NEVER seen her in her hides.(I have tried numerous sizes) she usually picks her climbing branch or curls in a corner squeezed between the hide and tank. She entered her last shed on friday when I noticed her eyes starting to cloud over. the last few days she has started to look dehydrated, and has been getting worse. She has had wrinkled skin last 2 days. Today I finally broke down and have her soaking as i write this. (her eyes were beginning to dimple, and she felt dry and brittle) I change her water daily and it's big enough for her to get in and soak. I have tried bigger and smaller bowls as well thinking she would perfer one over the other. (I even tried placing a larger box over it to act as a humid hide) I have seen her drink from it when I first got her. I do see her moving from the cold to hot sides. she is active and flicking her tongue when i pick her up. And she HATES this soaking buisness. What would cause this kind of thing? I've never had a snake do this. She was a captive bred baby from a local breeder I have purchased another snake from (that one is doing GREAT). She has been quarantined and up until this shed, she seemed great. I'm very worried and would appreciate any feedback and advice. Thanks

PS: sorry for the long post I wanted to make sure i gave as much detail as i could.

What kind of a lid is on the tank? Screen tops tend to not hold in humidity. Putting a damp towel over 2/3 of the top of the tank could help that.
Or switching her to a sweater box.

all the others are in tubs, but she has been in a quarantine tank for the last month. think she would be okay to switch. she has normal stools and is a great eater.

Yeah, switch her to a tub and see if that helps.
If the air is too dry around her, it doesn't matter how much she drinks...she'll dry out a bit.
