Genetic Mess in Pueblans

KcTrader Jul 21, 2010 08:07 PM

First off I know there has been some discussion on whether the Hypo Pueblan is pure, but heres my issue. I have a Het hypo female(Don Shores) and a Hypo female (2nd hand Mark Bell) and a Hypo male I picked up from a show. I bred the hypo male to both females The het hypo laid 8 eggs and I got 50% hypo and 50% Hets. The hypo female laid 8 eggs and all the babies are normal looking.

Has anyone had this happen? Is there a possibility that there is 2 different lines of hypo genes that are not compatible? Or, does one have an influence from another species and the genes are not compatible? Any and all opinions and comments welcome.

Now for my other issue I only have the 2 females left as I sold the male. Maybe I can get him back??? I will try and post pics later.

Here's my take. Have a 100% hypo male bred to normal female sock, and oreo female.
Babies were all hets with one or two hypos. Kept one het hypo from ea. female clutch, and sold the rest. Raised the hets (male is apricot, fem. normal color) and bred them two years in a row to ea. other. Half the babies are het normals, rest are hypo normal or apricot hypo. Kept one male from 09, almost a halloween hypo, to raise up for breeding. Have some this year with half hypo, and hypo. More eggs due soon from oreo x het hypo male. Expect most to be hets. Het female 2nd. cl. due in sept. incl. sock fem.
Did not use the 100% hypo male this season, just the apricot het hypo male. If anything interesting turns up, it'll be a surprise.

Genetics in campbells seems to work with apricot x apricot or hypo pairs. Anything else is up in the air, in my opinion.
