I hope the game warden does follow up. I don't think the guy needs to be cited but it would be good to edjucate him so he doesn't do it again. Also since it was in the paper, the paper should print a follow up alerting readers to the fact that the snake in question was an indigo, not a moccasin. And that indigos are harmless, beneficial to humans and the environment, not only that they are protected.
If the game warden doesn't go see the guy, he should at least write a letter to the paper, or have TPWD public relations write a letter that the paper can print, explaining the benefits of indigos and their protected status. This is actually a really good opportunity to edjucate the public because usually when a snake like this indigo gets killed nobody hears about it except the people who hear about it directly from the killer and it just leads to more killing of snakes.
