Harlequin question?

PnPreptiles Jul 22, 2010 02:49 PM

I am new to breeding boas and just had my second litter ever. I would like to know what exactly a Harlequin? Ive seen them advertised and just would like to know what it is as far as color or what that makes them Harlequin? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

harlequins were originated by tim magee. and harley`s appear to be a dominate morph wich produces vivid color and even pattern abbearancies! to date no super version exsits and i belive they have been bred together on more than one occasion so it appears there is no super! if youre thinking of buying one go for it there great looking animals especially if you get a exceptional speciman! regards......

First of all thanks so much for your help! Could you tell me where I could see pics or if you have any could you post some? The 2 litters I have had are out of a male that I was told was out of the PC Abby line and he is a Salmon, last year he bred my normal female and she has 21 babies and 11 were Salmon and the other 10 were normal colored but about 15 had from just minimal to extreme abberncies, my male has none and the female has none. This year he bred 3 females and 1 slugged out and one had 11 babies and she is a Salmontine and she has minimal abbencies, but about 5 came out super pink when they were born and just crazy stripes and chainlink saddles with like 1 or 2 breaks in their stripes. Im going to get some pics and post them to see what you and everybody thinks of them? Like I said I am new to the boas, but I have raised Colubrids for 20 years and some Ball Pythons also but not on a big scale. Thanks again!!!

youre aby line is actually a very similar morph as the halequins! & there are other genetic pastel boas with pattern abberancies as well! my partner just had a litter of hypo ginger`s wich were originally produced by aj schneller at schnellerreptiles.com he also has harlequins and harlequin jungles for sale now! they are not posted on his site however but you can see some of these animals i mentioned he`s actually a good friend of tim magee`s and they live real close to one another! the gingers and hypo gingers my partner just had are all abberant and all have killer color! 30 babies and only 7 came out hypo but the hypos are exceptional almost a deep purple color! and it is acting dominate all babies show trait! to date 2 gingers have not been bred together as far as i know aj told me a few folks last season bred some of the original 07 gingers and some guys in taiwan also had some sucsess! but all the females would have still been a little to young so hopefully we will know soon! if these have a super! cyclones are another one however i cant really tell you much about line because i just dont know but they too are very simalar to all these other morphs/lines ive mentiond! if i can scrape some pics of harlequins together i will sure send them to you! regards

Thought we would help with a few pics of some of our harlequin stock from Tim's brother Brendan. Also just thought we would add that harlequins have been sold as percentages by the originators. Harlequin to Harlequin make pure 100% harlequins, Harlequin to unrelated makes 50% Harlequins, etc. So if you see Jungles made from a harlequin parent, motleys, arabesques, etc they usually are not labeled but they are 50% Harlequin as to get the co-dom side they have to take one side from the co-dom and only one side from the harlequin parent.

Glennis 08' 0.1 Orange Tail Super Hypo Harlequin

Jasmine 08' 0.1 Striped Orange Tail Prob. Super Hypo Harlequin

Damien 08' 1.0 Striped 50% Harlequin normal best normal harlequin we have seen

Harlow 10' 0.1 Harlequin Motley

Lil' Crew 10' 1.0 Hotley (Harlequin Orange Tail Hypo Motley)

Damsel 08' 0.1 50% Harlequin normal

Dharma 08' 0.1 50% Harlequin normal

Those are just a few that we posted on here but if you check out our collection album on our website that can really show you the wide range of the different harlequins and harlequin hypos. Hope this helps.
