change in type of feces (hyla cinerea).. what could it mean?

itsmearyn May 26, 2003 02:43 AM

hey all..
i have had my two hyla cinerea for about three months now, and everything has been right on target as far as i can tell.. they are growing and shedding.. i have heard one calling, etc.
i keep the 29 gallon high tank that they are in at 70-75*F, and their humidity between 30 and 40%.
in the past two days, their feces has changed.. it is not the tight elliptical pieces it has been until now.. it is looser piles, almost liquid. there has been no abnormal change in their environment, and i change their water bowls daily.
when i clean their tank, i simply move them to another 29 gallon high, then take the time to rinse everything from their enclosure and add it to the second tank. i do this on a weekly basis.
i would appreciate any input.. thanks!

Symptoms for many parasitic infections include loose stools. Do not underestimate the influence of parasites on a reptile or amphibian.

Consult a veterinarian. They will probably ask you to bring in a very fresh stool sample for testing, and treatment of this is relatively simple. Although their small size and jumpiness will make it difficult. Make sure the vet wears moistened, powder free gloves whenever he is handling these frogs.
