Possible Phantom Ball on eggs

norajohn Jul 23, 2010 01:37 PM

I purchased this girl as an imported hatchling 10 years ago from an importer in Florida. I don't remember what I paid for her, but I think it was around 1k. She really stood out as very light and yellow with an interesting pattern. I have a picture of her somewhere alongside a nice ghost as a yearling and I remember in that picture she actually looked better then the ghost. I don't think anyone at that time had any idea what a Phantom ball was and I never got around to breeding her. I actually gave this ball python away a few years ago, but she came back into my hands. It was only in the last year or two that I really started looking at her as maybe something other then just an interesting ball. Anyway, I put her with a male Mojave this year and she is pictured on her eggs. If anything comes of this breeding I will update.
Thanks for looking and opinions welcome.

Nice snake your story is a little crazzy you bought a ball for $1000 over ten years ago but then you say "It was only in the last year or two that I really started looking at her as maybe something other then just an interesting ball." Who would pay that much and not at least think something might be going on I know petco wasn't saleingnormal ball for a grand. Good luck hope you make some potions or whatever they are called.LOL

I don't know John so can't speak for him but to me it sounds like she looked more interesting as a baby than as an adult and it wasn't until recently that he started to appreciate her subtle adult looks as having potential bred to a mojave.

Here is my female with a similar story only I got her cheap at a pet store and she has been consistently dark. Don't really have a good excuse as to why it took me 6 years to get eggs from a great feeder I've always been very excited about but only another week or two for me to wait.

Hi John,

That girl sure does look like a phantom to me. Good luck with her ... with all the awesome boas you produce it wouldn't surprise me if you produced a bunch of great ball pythons as well !!

cheers, John
