Harlequin keepers from 2010

tcdrover Jul 23, 2010 02:06 PM

These are my probable keepers from my hypo harlequin to hypo
harlequin breeding. It's been a few weeks since they were born.

Here are the parents, they practically look like twins.
The mother is yellower and the father is redder:

There were 17 neonates, 4 normal and 13 hypos. They've all eaten at least once. Some have eaten twice. All have shed except for
two.

This one has the reddest, sharpest pattern:

This one is the pinkest & has the most reduced pattern:

We are so happy to see another nice harlequin litter this year. And for yours to be pure harlequins, congrats on keeping them pure. That is why they are so clean. That first one is going to absolutely amazing as an adult. Can't wait to see progression pics. Awesome babies and again big congrats on a great harlequin litter. We will have to see what kind of hypo females you have when they are ready.

There was a lot of variations in that litter. I was surprised.
Even the normal harlequins came out looking pretty nice.

I'm going to give that girl a rest this year. I bred her last
year to an albino. Hopefully I should have sunglows in the
next couple of weeks.

Those are some real beauties! Just glowing with pink and I see the tail striping from the original harli grandpa is holding strong, awesome!

>>This one is the pinkest & has the most reduced pattern:

While the higher contrast clean red one posted above is nice this one (reduced pattern super pink) really reminds me of Candy, sister to the sire of your litter. She looked just like that as a baby! She still looks awesome, I really need to get some updated pic of my harlis. I noticed some of the babies in Zahara's litter got a very sharp yellow top color as they aged, once they were over 3'. Candy is either really pretty light yellow or super pink depending on light/dark phase. She also got a weird patch of black scales on her side that showed up after a couple months of age. I wonder if any of your babies will get that too?

Please keep sharing the updates, those are going to be some amazins harli adults!

Thanks, both parents have that exact same tail stripe. Most of
the harlequins I've seen have it.

I have noticed that the 4 I kept from last year's litter have
changed. One that was kinda dirty got cleaned up and one that
I thought was cleaner got kinda dirty.
(Weird)...

I think I'm going to breed the two pairs I kept from last year
to each other to get sunglows. I'm pretty sure I want to breed
some of this years to each other. I was kinda hoping I would
get a litter from your male and my big F4 pastel hypo to bring in
some fresh blood, but I'm still waiting on that one.

Very nice litter indeed. You gotta love those pinks. Don't over look those "normals". It's hard for me to call them normals. I've seen the "normal" harlequins and would take those keepers any day. But again I'm a "little' biased. Again, congrats on a beautiful litter.

Not a bad thought AJ. This guy is a 50% harlequin normal from Brendan. WOW!!!!!

No doubt about it, the "normals" shine!

Warren_Booth Jul 24, 2010 10:58 AM

I agree with that. The normals can sometimes blow the hypos out of the water.

Here is my "normal" male.

As a baby:

Thanks Warren,
Now that's what I'm talkin bout! The normals are my favorite product of the harlequin gene/trait. Because it is with the normals that the "H" expression is the most dramatic. It's obviously a trait that does wonderful things to whatever it's bred to as seen with the salmons, orangetails, motleys and the jungles that Tim Magee produced a couple years back. Those jungle/harlequins was one of the best combos I have seen. Now that's my opinion and not necessarily the gospel.

Take care,
AJ

I have a few plans for this guy this coming season. The first is to put him to the EBV girl (below). I think they would produce killer offspring together.

The other pairing, either this year or next, will be to the orange-tail harlequin I got off Brendan at the same time he gave me that male as a gift.

Its good weather this weekend, I'll try and get a new pictures of her.

That's clean color. There isn't a bad choice in either scenario. That's a breeding Gray would be interested in I'll bet.

Yeah we have four of that bottom girls hypo brothers and four of her hypo sisters. I wouldn't doubt that her four sisters all prove super as well as her. That was a great litter. Here is our favorite....

If she does not prove out super we will be blown away.

I also wanted to put up another pic of Damien in his brighter orange phase....

He has a really purpleish lavender phase, that really bright orange phase, and then one in between when he is purple and orange both.
