What morph is my snake?

radiotrash Jul 24, 2010 09:39 PM

Hi!

I am unsure of what morph my corn is. He's my first snake before I really got into them so yeah I got him from a Petco, I admit. He was just listed as an anerythristic corn snake but he started changing as he aged. He got yellower, he has stripes on his neck, and his belly looks speckled/dirty. So I'm not really sure of what he is. Caramel? Pastel? Amber?

He's about 1.5 years old.

Thanks!

Looks like a ghost motley to me. The motley gene takes away the belly pattern.

Pretty snake!

Forgot to mention, ghost is a combination of anerythristic and hypomelanistic. So he has 3 recessive genes.

>I am going to go with anery motley....it is a light anery but the motley patterning can do that..there are areas of black I see that make me lean more towards just anery without the hypomelanism...these places would be more grey....it is very very hard to tell ghosts from anerys sometimes and either one of us could be right. the only true way to find out would be to breed it to a ghost and see what happens...very nice for a PetCo find.

Many corn snakes gain yellow as they age. It also is not unusual for corns to get darker as they age. That snake is a motley pattern for sure. As far as color, it's either a dark ghost or light anery. Not all morphs can be determined by looking at photos - sometimes breeding the snake to another snake is the only way to know for sure.
