Rats or Mice?

shootingstar26 Jul 24, 2010 10:43 PM

I have a 2ft "Gulf Hammock" Ratsnake, that will take rat pinks or mice up to a similar size. He's nowhere near a picky eater-- he's wild caught and has eaten f/t rats and mice from the get-go. So, which is more nutritious? I'm guessing rats would be better, since there's less fur?

What I would do (and do do with my ratsnakes) is feed mice progressively until they can take rat hoppers and then put them on rats. I also wait 3 - 4 years before the first breeding attempt. I get very large snakes with good numbers of large healthy eggs.

bigger mice....50 cents....
little rats ....60 to 85 cents....

...both nutritionally the same almost....

...do the math?...

then order a hundred of each and feed every other week, every other food....

then throw in chicks while at it....
