I agree, I have a few snakes and my BP hates his head being touched most of all.
In terms of other versions, if you want to spend a little bit of money, look for a female pastel or spider ball python, both are dominant traits, meaning half the babies will show the trait when bred to a normal. They're also affordable morphs compared to lots of others.
On the other hand, if you aren't breeding just get another male. They're less expensive than females. Or you could get something totally different but similar like a children's or spotted python, rosy boa, hognose, corn/kingsnake, etc.
Whether you get another ball python or another species, I would not house the snakes together for many reasons. If you look up the subject there's a lot of info on it.
