smooth knobtail caging

mblons Sep 24, 2003 11:17 AM

I have been individually keeping my 5 (2 male, 3 female) occidentalis smooth knobtails in a Freedom Breeder Rack. The rack is huge(I have very limited space in garage and wife is complaining) and I cannot see the geckos to enjoy them. I am thinking of keeping them all together in one tank(20 gallon?) with undertank heat pad. Is this completely inadvisable or am I ok? Thank you for your input.- Mark.

You only wait 4 hours from you first post to start complaining about no responses? Funny.

What's funny is that the only response I got was from you which was of no help whatsoever. Thanks for nothing.

...wre not on this forum 24/7, so chill out and be patient.

Anyway, How big was the rack exactly?

A 20g long would be ok, but be sure to provide alot of hides to decrease dominance.

It is not a question of me chilling out. My post was responded to in a rude manner. If it was only four hours after I posted to ask again for a response, I am sorry. I did not mean to insult or to make anyone uncomfortable. I will have to make sure that I wait patiently for no one to respond next time. I have a double rack system about four feet wide and two levels high. Thank you for your reponse notwithstanding the chilling out comment. Actually, maybe I do need to chill out. I'm going to lunch. Thanks- M

I keep all of my Nephrurus individually. I have noticed that the females become stressed and tend to lose a couple of grams when the males are in the females' enclosures for an extended period of time (2 weeks+). There is no competition for food when they are kept separately. I understand that you want to be able to see the geckos, but, as I'm sure you are aware, they're not usually active until the lights are off.
