Anyone/everyone else having a slow week or two? I don't know if it's the full moon, the heat or both but I haven't seen more than cnemmies and some toads since maybe the 10th. Oh, and one horned lizard.

Here's to the fall activity season, I guess the dog days of summer are upon us and it's down to scouting possible locations (checked out a new one today...looked promising but I think I wound up with heat exhaustion...some puking and dizziness...will go back later).

Thats exactly how its been here, it sucks! I've been looking up in the trees more & paying closer attention to spiders & bugs to keep me intertained though, but still it will be nice to start seeing a bunch of snakes again. Good luck out there!

I have definitely noticed a slowdown in herp activity in South Carolina. I think most of the snakes have already made it to their preferred summer hunting grounds. I do still see at least one or two dead snakes on the road a week though. Most snakes that are getting runover here right now are either juveniles or post-partum females (or at least they appear to be).

I know exactly what you mean. My herping records are so subjective its more a log of how much gas money I had than how many snakes there were. Just an example, I've only seen a single live blacksnake this year. Things dropped off at the beginning of July even at night. I think the cure is to find new spots.

I'd say the heat. Remember last year? Soon as it hit the low 100s everything ground to a halt here in North Texas..
