Question about size, age and breeding...

kingofspades Jul 26, 2010 11:28 PM

So my first season I sold/traded all my female pastels (big mistake).
Anyway...I got one of the females back.
She's 2.5-3 years old, and 530 grams because the dude didn't feed her enough. She's not skinny by any means, just not as big as she should be.
My question is this...will that affect her breeding once she is "of size?"
She's a BEAUTIFUL pastel...and I really want her to make Pewters for me...hopefully late in the upcoming season if I can put some weight on her...but I am really hoping that his not feeding her enough didn't stunt her development.

Input?

ps: She is one of the nicest NERD line lemons I've seen.

I'm not an expert on this issue, but I think age is much less of a factor compared to weight. It would be hard to get another 800-900 grams on her before winter. I wouldn't get my hopes up for this season. She WILL make you some nicestuff one day. Good Luck Chris Hall

if you start pumping her up you can easily get her above 1200g by the end of the year.

smaller multiple meals work better than larger and fewer meals.

good luck!

She has NO issues taking food so far. Day one she took a barely weaned rat. The next day I opened the tub to look at her and she nailed me thinking I was a meal...so I offered her another one. Took it no issue.
Last night I was feeding the other snakes and she came up against the front of the tub like she wanted another! I didn't give her one, but I might in another 2-3 days or so.
I'm not worried about her gaining weight...like I said, I just want to make sure it didn't affect her ability to breed.

I guess I'll find out.

Try to feed her smaller meals more often she will deffinitly get up to 1200-1300 grams! I have a 1700g female lay her clutch 30days ago and she weighted 1230g after her lay...She weights 1440g already!! Also with an appitite like that..n/p..Goodluck to your up coming seasons!!

p.s nice choice on the pewters!!!

I've wanted a pewter since the day I saw the first one posted on here...
they've dropped so much in price I could have just BOUGHT one, but I am stubborn and want to see one hatch from my breedings. Same with bumblebees. Haha.

I completely agree with you (and I think MOST of us on here would too) about preferring to produce your own combo morphs versus outright purchasing them.

Unless someone is strictly a collector and is only keeping these animals as display animals (which is 100% legitimate and fine in my book) most people get much more satisfaction from watching a baby emerge from an egg than they do when watching it emerge from a shipping box.

I'm still not sure if it's weird that my best friend is a two year old boa named Ronin. He's quiet, non-judgemental and listens... what more could you want?
