South Carolina Rattlesnakes

jaydawg76 Sep 24, 2003 11:43 AM

I recently rescued a timber rattlesnake from a farm in the upstate of SC. The people who owned the farm were going to kill the snake if I didn't take it. I've had the snake since early July and have been looking to either return it to a safe location in the wild or give it to a zoo. Yesterday when I got home and went to check on the snake I found she had given birth to 14 baby snakes. If anyone who reads this can help me find a location for the snakes (preferably in the upstate of South Carolina or Western North Carolina) I would greatly appreciate it.

Heh heh, that's alot of cigars you'll need to pass out!

Seriously, my commendations to you for rescuing the snake. I believe Timbers (aka Canebrakes in some areas, but that's another story) are distributed statewide in SC. So any rural, out-of-the-way-of-people place that's not privately owned and has a lot of rocky, hilly areas would be a candidate. I wish I could be more specific, but hopefully someone with more knowledge of the area will be able to provide more specifics.
