Has anyone else been told...

That African Soft Furred Rats are illegal to own and breed?
I was told this today by a man at a petstore. I have never heard this by anyone else?
He mentioned "African Parasites" and "The Govenment putting their fingers into every little thing".

I did some checking before I started my colony. I know they legal to own, breed, and sell here in Nebraska. I know some places, even states, have made laws about and against them though. Best just to check where you are what laws are about regarding your animals.

Furthermore, as far as I have seen and experienced, my ASFs are clean. I give put all my Breeders through an Ivermectin bath cycle that should rid them of mites and even most internal parasites. Standard procedure with any feeder breeders, I would think.

He actually did say that it was because of Monkey Pox or whatever.
Does anyone know if ASFs are legal in Oklahoma?

there was a good link that had all the states listed which said which states were banned and which were not....got to do some searching....maybe i might create a page stating???

my question to everyone out there is if they are illegal to own alive....can you purchase them frozen? it's something that had me wondering as i never heard about shipping frozen ASF into a banned state before.

anyone would like to chime in????

As I recall they are illegal in missouri. State law not federally regulated.

Never heard anything about Iowa where I am from. DAMNED hard to find here in the sticks though.

It is legal to own and breed them in Mo for personal use or even to give them away, but you are required to have a exotic animale breeders license to sell them. That is acording to the dept. of conservation agent that was at one of the st louis shows last year.
