Nice finds! I've never seen a red salamander in person, but they have always been my favorite.

I tell ya, the red salamanders are hard to pick up. Very slippery. I had to just prod this one until it scooted off the road. One of the bigger ones Ive ever seen at about 4 or 5 inches. That sucks about that praire rattler getting hit before your eyes. I usually dont put em out of their misery because it just makes me feel worse. I like to just pull them off the road and put them in the bushes so they can at least die with some decency and not be flattened into pancakes.
